Additional Areas of Specialty
Dr. Kim has over 20 years of experience as a public service employee. In that time, she has worked as a child abuse and neglect investigator, she has been trained as a forensic interviewer for children who have been abused and neglect, and she has been a facilitator for a Wraparound Program, and she provided school-based mental health services to students in Placer County needing that support. In addition, Dr. Kim spent several years overseeing foster families providing care and shelter to foster youth. In this role, she provided supportive mental health and behavioral services to both the foster youth as well as the foster families caring for those youth. In the past year, Dr. Kim has been trained in Functional Family Therapy and is currently providing that service to families in Placer County.
Individual Therapy
Areas of specialty include: child abuse and neglect experiences, trauma, addictions and addiction recovery, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, suicidality and self-injurious behaviors, impulsivity and compulsive behaviors, eating disorders and/or food-related issues, low self-esteem, work-related challenges and job dissatisfaction, among other things. Dr. Kim works with children as well as adults and has experience with all age ranges. Family Therapy
Dr. Kim’s current license is as a Marriage and Family Therapist so she has completed specialty courses related to family relationships and family systems theory. Additionally, Dr. Kim has received specific training in an evidence-based family therapy model called Functional Family Therapy that has shown to be very helpful for families. Dr. Kim has experience working with couples as well as family systems. She is happy to discuss marriage/family needs in an initial consultation, if desired.
Veterans and First Responders
Working with first responders has always been a passion for Dr. Kim and while in private practice over the past few years, she has broadened this interest to include medical professionals and veterans. Dr. Kim is passionate about helping those who serve others. She has been described as “unflappable” when it comes to hearing trauma experiences from veterans and helping them process through those experiences to get to a place of greater peace.
